Frequently Asked Questions

Newborn Baby in Pink Wrap

How far in advance do I need to book a newborn session?

I typically recommend booking a newborn session in your 2nd trimester to ensure you receive a spot on my calendar. I only take on a certain amount of newborns a month to ensure flexibility in my schedule.

My baby is already here. Can I still do a newborn session?

Of course! But space may be limited. I typically photograph newborn babies 10 - 14 days after they are born. It is possible to do a newborn-styled session for up to 6 weeks. Don't hesitate to contact me if your baby is slightly older; it might determine whether you want a newborn or a baby session.

What experience do you have working with newborns?

My work experience consists of over half a decade of working with newborns. I regularly participate in continuing safety training and workshops; I’ve also participated in mentoring sessions with other local photographers. Your baby's safety is my number one priority. On top of work experience, I also have life experience. As a mom of 2, I am familiar with growing children and have picked up a few tricks over the years.

When do newborn sessions take place?

Sessions are held at my Rosemount studio on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday with a 10 am start time. I like to get babies in around 10-14 days after birth. However, I do photograph newborn-styled sessions up to six weeks of life.

What do we need to bring to our session?

The only thing you need to bring to the session is you and your baby. I have a large selection of props, boutique clothing, and headbands. I have spent years collecting these items from around the world and will have everything set up based on the information you provided in your questionnaire.

How do I prepare for my newborn session?

Once you’re booked, and on my schedule, I will send you a newborn prep guide that will have more information on what to expect and how to prepare for your memorable day.

What do you charge?

I believe in transparency; all my pricing for sessions is listed on my website under the pricing pages. The prices for all my products and prints are available in my studio. Contact me if you have questions about my products or any information not provided on my site.

Do you offer prints?

Absolutely! My goal as a photographer is to create beautiful memories of your family and turn them into art you proudly display in your home. After our session, I would love to assist you in ordering quality prints and products for your home. Whether it be via email or scheduling a time to swing by the studio for a coffee, I’m happy to help!

I have access to some of the best printing labs across the globe. As a Heather Ann Photography client, I want you to be able to order high-quality prints and products to showcase your photography investment. When you visit the studio, you will see a significant difference between the quality of my products and the products you receive from the big-name retailers.

What happens after I place an order?

I will take the best care in placing your orders, ensuring every image has the best fit and placement on that product. No cutoff heads or unexpected crops when you order through me. When your product is complete, it will be delivered to me for a quality check; then, I will contact you for pick up at the studio.

How long does a session last?

Session time varies depending on the session. I have 30-minute baby sessions up to 3-hour newborn sessions. You can learn more information on the session pricing pages.

Where do the sessions take place?

Newborn photography sessions are scheduled in my studio in Rosemount, Minnesota. All outfits and props needed for a newborn photoshoot are provided to you and included in the cost of the session.

For all other baby, family, and maternity photography sessions, we do these in our studio or outdoors during the “golden hour.”

When will we get to see our pictures from a session?

A proof gallery will be presented seven days after your session (holidays not included). From there, you will select your final images to be edited. Your final edited high-resolution images will be delivered 2-3 weeks later in a private gallery, where you can download the digital images. Through your final gallery, you can purchase various high-quality wall art (acrylic prints, canvases), albums, and many other timeless products.

Do you provide the RAW files?

No, Heather Ann Photography does not provide RAW files. A baker would never deliver a half-baked cake; as a professional photographer, it is my job to deliver the highest quality completed images.

What rights do I have to the digital images?

Every session comes with a set of digital images and a print release. This gives you the right to reprint images whenever you want. You may not sell your images for profit or publish your images without the written consent of Heather Ann Photography. While you may order wherever you would like, I offer you the ability to print your images through my quality professional printing labs. I can not back the quality of any lab other than the professional labs my screen is calibrated explicitly to.
